The 35th Georgia National Fair is now over, and Perry residents can travel south on Courtney Hodges without having to stop or slow down until reaching the redlight.  There is a price to pay for having 545,382 visitors in our small town and sometimes that means bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The PAHS helped to receive in antiques and stage them before the fair, and then helped to return them to their rightful owners after the fair.  Members who donated their time for this project were:  Susan Strickland, Randy Lanier, Jim and Sue Lay, Mary Cutrell, Katie Blount, Chris Faust, Kelly Moore, Phil and Sandy Smith, Trish Parker, Morrison and Kim Guidry, Christine Pickett, and myself.

Several of our members entered their antiques and took home prize money.  In fact, Chris Faus took home a Reserve Champion ribbon for his 1898 National Cash Register.  Other members who entered items into antiques and won ribbons were Randy and Di Lanier, Cathy Lancaster, Mary Cutrell, Katie Blount, Sandy Smith, Trish Parker, Jim and Sue Lay, and myself.

The antique display this year also housed a Bicentennial exhibit acknowledging Perry’s 200th birthday.  Sponsored by PAHS, Visit Perry, and Morris Bank, the exhibit showcased pictures and memorabilia of living in Perry, working in Perry, traveling to Perry, having fun in Perry, and notable Perryans.  It began in Perry featured an 1821 lottery deed, SSS tonic, and Perry inventions.

The 36th Georgia National Fair is scheduled for October 2 – 12, 2025.  Now is the time to start making a list for the antiques you plan to enter and count on us to help you get them registered before the fair begins.
