The Parsonage Benefit - Oyster Supper

The oyster supper at the courthouse last Friday night, January 1,1897, was well attended and a success throughout. The affair was managed by several members of the Methodist parsonage aid society, and it was truly well managed.

At 7 o'clock, or earlier, oyster raw or oysters stewed could be secured with coffee, tea, or chocolate. Later lunch in the baskets was offered. It is proper to say that there was more than one oyster in each stew served and the lunch baskets contained more than enough for a good meal of the best quality.

Mr. Fred M. Houser managed the amusement program and under his leadership the children (of various ages) played "tap the rabbit", "marching around the level" and other popular games.

The supper room was well patronized, every customer was satisfied, and all who attended enjoyed the event. A very neat sum was realized and will be devoted to necessary improvements at the Methodist parsonage.
